Chandler police arrested a man and woman early Friday they say were stealing copper wiring from the Fulton Ranch neighborhood.

Michael Largy and his girlfriend, Cynthia Georgia Kavuma, 20, were arrested about 1 a.m. on suspicion of possession of stolen property that included copper wiring, burglary-related offenses and drug posession near Ocotillo Road and Arizona Avenue where police have seen a spike in copper thefts.

Police caught Largy on foot after he was seen jumping fences near Ocotillo Road, and Kavuma was apprehended in a vehicle at Arizona Avenue and Ocotillo Road.

The pair told police they had planned to sell the copper at a scrap yard.

During the course of the investigation, detectives identified Largy as a suspect in one other burglary from the development.

Kavuma was released by investigators with possible charges pending.

It is now 8:30 am on Friday, the 20th. And this report was posted on Thursday, the 19th. But this pair was arrested at 1:00 a.m. on a Friday. Clearly it took a week to be written up. Why so long?

Good work by the police here. The police need to keep a closer eye on the scrapyards! Citizens, if you see suspicious activity at these yards, report it! Take pictures with your phone.
