Funeral services will be held Monday morning for a DPS officer from Mesa who was killed during a mountain rescue last week.
Officer Bruce W. Harrolle of the Arizona Department of Public Safety was helping in the rescue of two hikers in Sedona when he was struck and killed by a helicopter blade.
Harrolle is survived by his wife, two young children and his parents.
Services will take place at 9 a.m. at Central Christian Church of the East Valley, 933 N. Lindsay Road, Mesa.
A committal ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport in the aviation hangar at 5835 S. Sossaman Road, Mesa.
According to the DPS Web site, Harrolle, who was 36, earned the department’s prestigious Distinguished Service Award for his role in the Lewis Prison hostage crisis in 2004 and received several letters of commendation.
He began his career with Arizona DPS in 1999 and joined the Air Rescue Unit after graduation from the Arizona Law Enforcement Academy.
