The Las Vegas-based travel company said it plans to place 13 of the aircraft into service by the end of 2011. The other five aircraft will not be operated but will be used as a source of spare engines and other spare parts, the company said.

The transaction is expected to satisfy all of Allegiant’s expected aircraft growth through the end of 2011, the company said.

Currently Allegiant operates 46 MD-80 aircraft.
