Perry High School special needs teacher and softball coach Allison Robinson has been named the Teacher of the Year by Fulton Homes. Robinson received her award Tuesday during a luncheon in Tempe.

Coach Robinson supported her players as they grieved last year over the death of their teammate, Kayla Havins. Kayla's sister Lanie nominated Robinson for the award.

Robinson is a former member of the University of Arizona softball team and a member of a national championship winning team. Her coaching style is described as "no nonsense" and "demanding" by Perry High Principal Dan Serrano. Perry High is a Gilbert school in the Chandler Unified School District.

Fulton Homes has recognized a teacher of the week during the school year for the past 10 years, and names a Teacher of the Year at the end of each school year.
