An Army soldier from Glendale has been killed in combat in Afghanistan along with a comrade from Oregon.
The Department of Defense says 29-year-old Spc. Hugo V. Mendoza died Thursday when his unit was attacked by enemy forces using rocket-propelled grenades, machine guns and small arms.
Also killed in the battle was Sgt. Joshua C. Brennan, 22, of Ontario, Ore.
He died on Friday.
The two solders were assigned to the 2nd Battalion of the 503rd Airborne Infantry Regiment based in Vicenza, Italy.
