Law enforcement officials are rallying for fallen Phoenix officer George Cortez by hosting a benefit carwash Saturday.

Phoenix Police Department and the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office will host the car wash in the parking lot of the Safeway and Carl’s Jr. shopping center located on 35th Avenue and Bell Road. The event kicks off at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 3:00 p.m.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio will be at the carwash at 11:00 a.m. to support the fundraising efforts.

Officer Cortez worked for the Sheriff’s Office for two years before moving to the Phoenix Police Department, and he was the son-in-law of Sheriff’s Captain Tom Tyo, according to authorities.

Proceeds from the benefit will go to the Cortez family.
