SUNFLOWER, Ariz. (AP) — One fire in Arizona's Tonto National Forest is 15 percent contained and another also is being slowed by rainfall.
Forest officials say the Charley Fire burning three miles west of Sunflower is at an estimated 2,300 acres. But they say cooler temperatures, higher humidity and some precipitation kept fire activity to a minimum Wednesday.
The lightning-caused blaze began Sunday and is burning in extremely steep and rugged terrain north of Maverick Mountain.
Meanwhile, the Queen Fire burning 2 miles northeast of Superior has been mapped at 600 acres. That's half the size that originally was reported by forest officials.
That fire was reported Monday night and its cause remains under investigation. The fire is in rocky, inaccessible terrain so crews are attacking the flames by air only at this point.
