Maricopa County transportation director John Hauskins has been honored with a lifetime achievement award from the Arizona Society of Professional Engineers.

Hauskins, who spent 30 years with the Arizona Department of Transportation before joining the county in 2007, designed and built the original viscosity testing machine for the asphalt rubber program and developed the original model for the wave machine at Big Surf in Tempe, as well as portions of Interstate 10’s inner loop and The Lakes in Tempe. He has filed more than 20 domestic and foreign patents on applications from sound barriers to high-speed hydraulic valves.

“John Hauskins is a multi-talented, creative thinking individual,” said Maricopa County Manager David Smith in a news release. “He runs a first rate Transportation Department and can find a solution to virtually any problem.”

Hauskins will receive the award Feb. 25 at the 2011 Greater Phoenix Engineer’s Week Gala at the Downtown Sheraton Hotel in Phoenix.
