COVINGTON, Ky. Northern Kentucky-based St. Elizabeth Healthcare is selling its ambulance service, pending state approval.

A news release from the nonprofit hospital group said it plans to sell TransCare of Kentucky Inc., to Scottsdale-based Rural/Metro.

The service had been jointly owned by St. Elizabeth and St. Luke health care companies before they merged and has been operated for a dozen years.

The value of the deal wasn't announced. It still faces approval by the Kentucky Office of Health Policy.

St. Elizabeth operates six hospitals in northern Kentucky and is sponsored by the Diocese of Covington.
