Early Tuesday morning, little Chloe Hale was brought into the world — not at a hospital, but less than a mile down the road from Banner Gateway Medical Center.

Michael Hale was driving his wife Taylor Hale, who was in labor with their second child, to the hospital when they realized that they weren’t going to make it in time and called Mesa police.

Mesa Police received a call from the Hales shortly after 4 a.m.; baby Chloe was not willing to wait.

Taylor began delivering her own baby before her husband could pull the car over, and once he did, a Mesa Police Department dispatcher guided the couple through the delivery over the phone.

Soon after the birth, Mesa police and fire department personnel arrived at the scene, and police escorted the Hales to the hospital, where both baby and mother were declared healthy.
