COTTONWOOD - A Federal Aviation Administration spokesman says the pilot of a small plane that made an emergency landing in a field north of the airport in Cottonwood on Wednesday morning is OK.
FAA spokesman Ian Gregor says the pilot and sole occupant of the single-engine homebuilt Sonex airplane reported engine trouble and landed about a mile north of the airport at about 10:30 a.m. The aircraft had damage to the left wing and propellor.
Cottonwood Fire Department Chief Mike Casson said the pilot was taking off when he lost power and managed to glide the plane into an opening in the mesquite-filled field. He hit one bush and damaged the plane. The pilot suffered a small scratch and needed only first aid treatment.
