The Aloft Tempe has become Arizona's first hotel to receive LEED certification for its eco-friendly features.

The hotel opened in January 2009 and recently was awarded the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. The recognition is based on meeting guidelines for using sustainable products and less energy.

The 136-room Aloft Tempe is at the southeast corner of the Loop 202 and Rural Road.

Aloft Tempe is the seventh hotel operated by Starwood Hotel & Resorts Worldwide to receive LEED certification. It is owned by Los Angeles-based Triyar Hospitality and New York-based Warburg Pincus Real Estate.
