A 21-year-old man was taken to a trauma center Sunday after he crashed his motorcycle into the side of a pickup truck.
Capt. Mike Connor, Gilbert fire spokesman, said the impact of the crash caved in the rear panel of the pickup by 2 feet.
Connor said the motorcyclist was speeding when he crashed at 6 p.m. on Pecos Road, just east of Higley Road.
Upon impact, the motorcyclist flew over his handlebars and the truck bed.
When firefighters arrived he was walking around dazed and was unable to answer questions appropriately, so he was taken to Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn hospital for evaluation.
Connor said the motorcyclist reported he rarely wears a helmet and put one on Sunday only because the weather was cold.
