Apache Junction police are continuing to investigate a homicide connected to an apparent robbery attempt that left the 29-year-old robber dead.
Police identified the man who was shot inside an apartment in the 500 block of West 16th Avenue as Jamie Lee Carty of Apache Junction.
On Nov. 5, police were responding to a report of gunshots at the complex about 8:30 p.m. When officers arrived, they discovered Carty on the floor. The people inside the apartment told police that they were approached by Carty, who put a gun to the head of one of the men in the group. A scuffle ensued, and Carty fired his gun. One of the intended victims then pulled a gun from a waistband and shot Carty, according to Capt. Tom Kelly, an Apache Junction police spokesman.
Carty had a prior history with police, Kelly said.
No one else was injured in the shooting and no charges have been filed at this time, Kelly said.
