The City of Chandler is accepting nominations for inductees to Celebration Plaza, a permanent monument near the center of Tumbleweed Park designated as a place to recognize individuals or organizations for significant and enduring contributions to the community.

Nominations can be submitted to the Community Services Department through Sept. 30. There is no nomination fee.

Any nominee selected for induction after the review process will be honored at an induction ceremony in 2012. As part of the induction, a brass plaque will be placed in Celebration Plaza, alongside plaques honoring previous inductees Eddie Basha, Jr., the Chandler Service Club, Lenford Calley, Officer Robert Nielsen, and Henry Salinas.

The 2010 inductees — Patti Bruno, Lowell Huggins, Officer Carlos Ledesma, Dave McDowell and Marty Wright — will have their ceremony this fall.

Nomination forms are online at www.chandleraz.gov/parks. They are also available at the Chandler Community Center, the Snedigar Recreation Center, the Tumbleweed Recreation Center, and the Environmental Education Center, or by calling (480) 782-2727.

Lowell Huggins was a dirty cop who was fired for interfering with police investigations. He has no business being honored or even mentioned in the same breath as fallen CPD Detective Carols Ledesma. Huggins was a disgrace as a police officer and is a disgrace to the City of Chandler.
