The Mesa Riverview shopping center and surrounding area lost power Saturday night after two nearby transformers exploded.

Police and fire crews responded to an electrical substation just before 7:30 p.m. at 1100 W. Hillview St. near Alma School Road and Loop 202.

Authorities did not immediately know the cause of the explosion or size of the area affected.

Officials said power was out for about two hours.
