Desert Ridge Junior High School, a Mesa school in the Gilbert Unified School District, is home to a new special needs program called Vocational Training and Assessment (VTA), according to a news release. The VTA program replaces the VIP program, formerly hosted at Highland High School.
VTA is a half-day program combined with half-day at-home academics. Activities provide special needs students with ongoing career-related assessment, planning, skills, and campus-based work experiences. They also get job assignments at the Desert Ridge Junior High campus, including clerical duties, customer sales in the Spirit Store, and custodial and housekeeping assignments.
