IKEA announced this week it is planning a solar energy system for its Tempe store. Pending remaining government permits, installation of solar panels on the roof of the store will begin in May, with completion in the fall.

The 46,000-square-foot configuration will consist of two 300-kWh systems, each built with approximately 1,300 panels. IKEA Tempe’s solar program will produce approximately one million kWh of electricity annually for the 342,000-square-foot store.

This effort represents the third solar energy project for IKEA in the U.S. The project is the largest commercial installation in SRP’s service area.
