How's this for an end to the Cactus League season: an old-timers baseball game, hosted by a Hall of Famer, with the proceeds going to charity?

Fergie and Friends, benefiting the foundation started by Chicago Cubs pitcher Ferguson Jenkins, will take place Friday night at Mesa's Hohokam Stadium. Before the game, there will be opportunities to shake hands, take photos and get autographs.

Jenkins, elected to baseball's highest honor in 1991, has never had a charity game in his name before. "It's going to be a lot of fun," Jenkins said. "I think the people will really enjoy themselves."

The Fergie Jenkins Foundation donates to a number of organizations, both in America and Jenkins' native Canada. Jenkins is unsure whether proceeds will go toward cancer research or juvenile diabetes programs.

Mesa's HoHoKam organization will also benefit. The confirmed Hall of Famers that will be participating are Juan Marichal, Billy Williams and Meadowlark Lemon (basketball). Among the other participants are Vida Blue, Bert Campaneris, Jody Davis, Bob Dernier, Al Downing, George Foster, Randy Hundley, Jay Johnstone, Ron LeFlore, John Mayberry, Amos Otis, J.R. Richard, Lee Smith, Steve Trout, Ozzie Virgil Jr., Bob Welch and Willie Wilson.
