ABC 15 investigators documented overnight security lapses that included x-ray machines that were turned off, closed metal detectors, and unchecked bags and people.

According to a release from ABC 15, their investigators were able to obtain documents that demonstrated that the overnight security lapses had become an ongoing problem for nearly two years.

The station also brought in an airline security expert and former head of security at a major airline to evaluate their findings on site. The investigation received national exposure on CNN, ABC World News Tonight, and ABC Good Morning America.

The George Foster Peabody Awards were first presented in 1941 and recognize outstanding achievements and services by broadcasters, producing organizations, and individuals. ABC15 is the only Arizona station, and one of four local news stations in the country, to win this award in 2007.
