Phoenix has been named one of four finalists for the 2012 Republican National Convention.
Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon says political conventions are big business.
And he says the hard work will now begin as Phoenix prepares for site visits and works on details to accompany the city's pitch for the convention.
The city says its bid was supported by Arizona Republican Party Chairman Randy Pullen, who is treasurer of the Republican National Committee. It also was backed by members of Arizona's congressional delegation.
The Associated Press has reported Salt Lake City is a finalist, and the Tampa Tribune reported that Florida city also is a finalist.
A spokeswoman for the Republican National Committee in Washington, D.C., Sara Sendek, said Monday the committee is not commenting on the selection process.
