Tempe police arrested a Phoenix man they say is connected to the shooting death of a 22-year-old man at the Hayden Lane Apartments, but the second suspect remains at large.
Police arrested Blaine Griffin Jr. on suspicion of first-degree murder and armed robbery on Wednesday, Tempe police announced Monday.
Officers say Griffin is involved in what they believe to be a drug-related shooting that police responded to at about 3 p.m. on Jan. 18 at the complex, 1896 E. Hayden Lane. The incident left one man dead and two injured.
Police identified the man who died after being shot as Allen Philip Cropper. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital shortly after the incident, police said.
Investigators say that Griffin and his unidentified associate were at Cropper's apartment to purchase marijuana. While the individuals inside the residence were negotiating the price of the marijuana, a physical altercation ensued. The altercation escalated and Griffin and his associate fired shots inside the apartment, according to police.
A second man received a minor non-life threatening injury after he was also shot by one of the suspects and a third man was physically assaulted by one of the suspects. Both were treated for their injuries.
Tempe Police Detectives are seeking the public's assistance in identifying and locating Griffin's associate. He is described as a black male about 22 years old with short shaved hair. He weighs about 250 pounds and was wearing a black T-shirt the night of the incident.
He may be driving a dark blue Chevrolet Suburban or Tahoe with dark tinted windows.
