Las Vegas police on Monday arrested a 32-year-old Tempe man suspected of beating a 2-year-old girl to death in October.

Dossie Ellis Jr. ran from police about 12:30 p.m. at a home on the southwest side of Las Vegas and was found three hours later hiding in a tractor-trailer about a block away, said Sgt. Tom Roberts of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

He was arrested on suspicion of child abuse and aggravated assault and is scheduled to appear today before a Las Vegas judge, Roberts said.

Tempe police, who gave Las Vegas police the tip on Ellis’ whereabouts, believe he caused fatal injuries to the daughter of his live-in girlfriend on Oct. 14 at a Tempe apartment.

Police said called his mother that morning and told her something was wrong with one of the children he was babysitting.
