PHOENIX - Former state Senate President Ken Bennett was sworn in Monday as Arizona secretary of state.

New Gov. Jan Brewer appointed Bennett to replace her as secretary of state.

The 49-year-old Bennett is a Prescott businessman who served eight years in the Senate, including four as Senate president. He left the Legislature in early 2007 because of term limits.

He previously served on the state Board of Education and the Prescott City Council.

The secretary of state's official duties include serving as the state's top elections officer, but Brewer says she wants Bennett to serve as a team member with her in her new administration.

Bennett says he will pour all his energy into the job.
