Mesa residents can expect to see canvassers with the U.S. Census Bureau passing by their homes beginning March 30. That's the beginning of the Bureau's information collection process.
The officials are expected to work during daylight. They should be wearing white shirts, sporting an official badge and will also have a hand-held computer, a bureau official said.
The canvassing, which takes place until June 3, is being done to cross-check addresses with the Census Bureau database ahead of the questionnaires, which would be delivered to residents in March 2010. Canvassers will use the computers with maps to verify and list structures. Information collected is confidential and would not be shared with any other entity. The Bureau also plans to start another round of hiring in September.
