Chandler City Manager Mark Pentz retired Friday after holding the post 6½ years.

Pentz told the City Council he planned to retire once the council passed its annual budget, which it did Thursday.

Assistant City Manager Rich Dlugas will become acting city manager.

The City Council is expected to launch a search for a permanent manager after this fall's election for a new mayor and three council members.
