Several controversial Republican-sponsored bills targeting government employee unions appear stalled in the Arizona Senate a week after one such measure was approved.
The Senate was scheduled Thursday to consider a measure to bar using tax dollars to pay for workers’ union activities. But it is being withdrawn from a calendar for Thursday’s floor session.
Peoria Republican Sen. Rick Murphy says he hasn’t had time to work on possible changes in response to concerns about the bill.
However, a lobbyist for a firefighters union says the move is due simply to a lack of votes for the bill, let alone two others that have yet to be scheduled for consideration by the full Senate.
One of those would ban collective bargaining with public employee unions.
