Travelers renting cars at Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix soon will have to pay a bit more after an increase in a customer facility charge imposed by the city.
The current city charge is $4.50 a day, which will be raised to $6 a day as of Jan. 1.
The fee helps pay the debt for the $285 million Rental Car Center, which the airport opened in 2006.
The Phoenix City Council raised the fee to build a debt reserve for the bond debt.
The fee is one of several surcharges and taxes that travelers pay when they rent cars at Sky Harbor.
