Mesa Marine earns top boot camp honors

Lance Cpl. Gregory Koestner, 28, of Mesa has graduated from Marine Corps recruit training with the distinction of being named Company Honorman, a title given to a company's top recruit.

Koestner, who reports to Marine Combat Training at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., on Aug. 23, joined the Marine Corps after five years of working with CB Richard Ellis as a real estate agent. He also earned a bachelor's degree in real estate from Arizona State University, according to a news release.

Following his training at Camp Pendleton, Koestner will go to Naval Air Station Pensacola, Fla., to pursue his Marine Corps career in the intelligence field.
