Apache Junction police reported that 13 homes or vehicles were damaged by paint or markers between midnight and 8 a.m. Sunday. The criminal damage all took place in the Cortez Ranch area of Apache Junction .

Some damage contained threatening and offensive language, according to Arnold Freeman, spokesman for the police department. In addition, there were two reports of theft where light bulbs and American flags were stolen from homes.

Within hours of the crimes, police Cpl. Glen Durkin arrested two female juveniles and booked them into Pinal County Juvenile Detention. During the investigation, additional items, including lawn statues, were recovered from the girls.

If you live in this area and have a lawn ornament missing, the Apache Junction Police Department encourages you to contact the property section to see if your item was recovered, Freeman wrote in an e-mail.
