Apache Junction Unified School District families seeking assistance for Thanksgiving may now apply for it at the Project HELP office, 195 E. Superstition Blvd.
Applications will be accepted 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays when school is in session through Nov. 8. Assistance applications for Christmas will be accepted during the same days and hours through Dec. 4. Applicants must have school-age students living in the household that regularly attend a district school. Project HELP also recommends applicants visit the office prior to applying for assistance to pick up an information sheet detailing required documentation of outgoing expenses and proof of income.
Donations are being accepted now, as well. They may be dropped off 8:30 a.m. to noon Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. For more information, contact Project HELP at (480) 288-2955.

So, you're telling me that families who are in need of financial assistance for the holidays must go through the degrading act of filling out an application for such help. I guess the "brains" who figured that out did not consider going through the applications for free/reduced lunch that they already have on file. After all, why not have those who have no money fill out more forms, they have nothing else to do. Apache Junction officials who dreamed this up should be ashamed!
