Joseph Lutrario, a part-time resident of Mesa and New York and a former New York city policeman who helped to evacuate children from the day care center inside the north World Trade Tower during the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, was inside the south tower when it collapsed. Buried alive and injured, Lutrarior later helped during the recovery efforts at Ground Zero. Lutrario was the keynot speaker during the city of Tempe’s Sept. 11 commemoration event at Tempe Beach Park’s Healing Field on Tuesday evening. [Mike Sakal/Tribune]
