Mesa Mayor Scott Smith speaks at the Mesa Arts Center, Monday, September 27, 2010, announcing that Mesa is one of four cities to be awarded a Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation grant of $3 million that allows the city to work with the Mesa Unified School District and MCC to figure out how to get more kids in college until they get a degree. The other cities awared grants were New York, San Francisco and Riverside.
