Worth the Trip: 129th annual World’s Oldest Continuous Rodeo

Every summer, the pine-shaded town of Payson celebrates a rodeo that started back in 1884 and has run continuously every year since. A local point of pride on the Rim, it’s a chance for us city dwellers to rub shoulders with real cowboys and cowgirls while bull riders, steer wrestlers, bronc riders, specialty acts and colorful clowns entertain in a rollicking two-hour show.

A dance with a live band follows the Friday- and Saturday-night rodeos; admission is free with your rodeo ticket. A rodeo parade takes place 9 a.m. Saturday on Main Street. Saturday night is Patriot Night, honoring fallen, wounded and returning veterans with the Marine Corps Mounted Honor Guard. [More details on next slide ...]
