Before vampires were quite so mainstream in teen lit and on TV, Valley vampire fans in the know got their fanged-creature fix in a dark theater over on McDowell Road.

The seductive show they flocked to see, Lisa Starry’s “A Vampire Tale,” plays again this month. Practically a local cult classic, it follows a young woman who is lured into a band of bloodsuckers that both frighten and fascinate her.

The modern dance drama by Scorpius Dance Theatre is filled with aerial effects, striking makeup, and eerie original music and lighting. Long heralded as the must-see production of the Halloween season, tickets sell out fast.

DETAILS >> Show times vary through Nov. 3. Phoenix Theatre’s Little Theatre, 100 E. McDowell Road, Phoenix. Tickets start at $25; add a Vamp Pass, with front-row seating, a gift bag and a signed program, for $15 more. (602) 254-2151 or ScorpiusDance.com.
