The dancers stole our hearts and left an impact with their passionate and emotional routines — and to think: That was just through a TV screen.
The top 10 finalists on the “So You Think You Can Dance” Live Tour perform Oct. 28 in Phoenix.
Winners Chehon Wespi-Tschopp and Eliana Girard will lead the cast.
“It’s cool that Chehon and Eliana are the first ballet dancers to win the competition, because usually more contemporary dancers win,” says tour spokeswoman Kristin Loretta.
Different types of dance will be mixed into the dancer’s routines including hip-hop, contemporary, ballet and tango.
“The show is basically going to be a bit of everything, just like on the (televised) show,” Loretta says.
Joining Wespi-Tschopp and Girard on the Comerica Theatre stage will be the other eight finalists: Tiffany Maher, Cyrus Spencer, Witney Carson, Cole Horibe, Lindsay Arnold, Will Thomas, Audrey Case and George Lawrence, Jr.
Loretta says that seeing the dancers perform live is a different experience from what viewers watched on their television screens on Wednesday nights. “A lot of people were so moved by the show, and that will be amplified when they see it live for themselves ... Everything is different when you experience it with your own eyes,” she says.
Leading up to the tour, the dancers worked hard in rehearsal to tweak favorite routines from the show and choreograph new and original pieces specifically for the live tour, according to Loretta.
There will also be a few switch-ups, as far as the dancers pairing up with different partners and surprises within their dancing techniques.
