Following a surge in ticket sales, Valley Youth Theatre has announced that the Arizona musical premiere of “How I Became a Pirate” is being extended for four more performances.
Producing Artistic Director Bobb Cooper says some are calling the show VYT’s best new family musical since “Dora the Explorer.”
“How I Became a Pirate” is based on the best-selling book written by Melinda Long and illustrated by Caldecott Honor-winning artist David Shannon. It’s about a boy, Jeremy Jacob, who is recruited by pirates to help find the perfect spot to bury their treasure.
National Youth Theatre Award-winning actor Sam Primack plays Jeremy in what will be his final performance on the VYT stage this season. After “Pirate” closes, Primack will take on the role of Pugsley in a national tour of “The Addams Family.”
Performances are at noon and 3:30 p.m. Saturdays, and 12:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. Sundays, through Nov. 4 at 525 N. First St., Phoenix. Tickets are available at vyt.com or by calling (602) 253-8188, extension 2.
