Silver Star Playhouse, the new live theater venue filling the old Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre building at Higley and Brown roads in Mesa, will open Nov. 29.
Its first production: “A Christmas Carol Part 2,” a comical follow-up to the classic Dickens Christmas story. In it, a vengeful Bob Cratchit is bent on repaying Ebenezer Scrooge for years of misery. With the help of a spoiled Tiny Tim, he plans to destroy Scrooge’s business — that is, if the Spirits of Christmas can’t save the day.
“Silver Star Playhouse isn’t your typical Broadway-style theatre,” explains executive producer Mike Todd on the venue’s website.
Instead of traditional Broadway musicals, it presents original musical parodies — like “Less Miserables: A Revolution of Comedy,” opening Jan. 4, 2013.
In-theater dining is still part of the experience. Silver Star productions also include “The Olio,” a second, mini- variety show after the main production ends that features singing, dancing and comedy.
Silver Star Playhouse is sister theater to the Salt Lake City’s 25-year-old Desert Star Playhouse.
