Not long ago, we got to judge a Poetry Out Loud competition at a Mesa school, and watching kids of all backgrounds really get into and perform the poems they chose was actually pretty cool. They definitely impressed us.

You can see what we mean: Youth from all over the Valley will come together for the All City Slam at Mesa Arts Center. Held 5:15 to 7 p.m. Nov. 30, it’s a spoken-word competition that helps young people establish their voice and use it to become driven citizens of the world.

Admission is free. You’ll find the show inside the Piper Repertory Theater at the center, 1 E. Main St. For information, call (480) 644-6500 or MesaArtsCenter.com.
