If the old-timey clothing and equipment at this weekend’s Chandler Chuck Wagon Cook-off don’t take you back in time, the food surely ought to.

For three days, authentic chuck wagon teams from Arizona, California, Nevada and Montana will cook five courses that were typically prepared on 1880s cattle drives: bread, beans, meat, potatoes and dessert. And they’ll do it using only cooking methods, utensils and ingredients that were available in the Old West.

A limited number of tickets for the noon meal will be available to purchase on Saturday only, beginning at 10 a.m. Tickets cost $12 and are expected to sell out quickly. A cowboy breakfast of biscuits and gravy and flapjacks starts at 10 a.m. Sunday. Breakfast tickets are $10.

Entertainment throughout the weekend includes cowboy entertainers Marshal Pioneer Pepper and the Sunset Pioneers, performances by the Arizona Gunfighters, tours of the historic 1917 McCroskey House, and hay wagon rides to the nearby Arizona Railway Museum.

A Campfire Glow is scheduled for 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, when visitors can roast marshmallows under the stars to the songs of cowboy singer Wally Bornman. S’mores fixin’s can be purchased at the ranch, or families can bring their own.
