Just in time for an impromptu 3-day weekend roadtrip, Arizona Snowbowl is opening its chairlift for scenic rides into the San Francisco Peaks near Flagstaff.
The ski resort’s Agassiz Triple Chairlift reaches an elevation of 11,500 feet, providing a vertical drop of 2,000 feet. The scenic ride takes approximately 25 minutes in each direction and offers seemingly endless panoramic views. You can even spy the North Rim of Grand Canyon, about 70 miles away, from your seat in the sky.
As of Monday, May 19, there were still several inches of snow at the top, where riders can get out and walk around and ask questions of a ranger versed in the area’s geology, geography, biology, history and more.
A restaurant at the bottom of the chairlift offers lunch with a view.
The chairlift operates 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, plus May 26 and Sept. 1, Memorial Day Weekend through mid-October.
Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and kids ages 8-12 and free for children younger than 7 and seniors older than 70.
Arizona Snowbowl lies 14 miles outside of Flagstaff, about two hours from Phoenix. For information, call (928) 779-1951 or visit ArizonaSnowbowl.com.
