The dining-at-the-movies concept is nothing new, but we’ve had one less place to do it since Farrelli’s Cinema Supper Club — the granddaddy of Valley in-theater dining — closed last month.
Until now.
Studio Movie Grill opens Friday at Sonora Village in Scottsdale. “J. Edgar,” “Immortals,” “Puss in Boots,” “Tower Heist” and “Jack and Jill” are among the films showing.
The theater houses nine screens with Dolby 3D technology, a central bar, and servers who deliver food and drinks directly to your seat. Among its offerings are leather recliners, buckets full of beer and $1 family movies.
“Our menu boasts more than 100 food and beverage items, ranging from made-to-order loaded hamburgers to healthy salads. We also offer daily specials, like ‘Endless Pizza’ on Wednesdays,” says Brian Schultz, founder of the Dallas-based Studio Movie Grill chain.
Food and drink prices max out at $12. Morning movie tickets (prior to noon) start at $5. Afternoon and evening tickets start at $9.75, plus tax. VIP and reserved seating is also available.
The facility also screens 3D concerts, limited-release films, original series, documentaries and screenings for families raising children with special needs. Upcoming events include: a “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1” midnight screening (Nov. 17), Muppet Madness $1 Muppet Classics (Nov. 12 and 19), and free screenings of “Puss In Boots” (Nov. 12), “Happy Feet Two” (Nov. 26) and “The Muppets” (Dec. 3) for children with special needs and their siblings.
