That’s one reason the folks at ShowUp.com give for offering Culture Pass, a voucher that can get you — and a companion — in for free at big-name attractions across the Valley.
This time of year, I’m especially loving that such a thing exists. The promise
of cooler
weather here — and the onset of colder
weather back East — has
ignited the annual
parade of out-of-town visitors, and these people need to be entertained while they’re here.
At the same time, more dollars will be going out the door for things like Halloween costumes, Thanksgiving dinner, Christmas gifts and holiday parties. If there’s any possible way I can save a few bucks, just show me the way.
So, where can you use a Culture Pass? A dozen venues are on the get-in-free list, including Arizona Science Center (regularly $14 per adult), Desert Botanical Garden ($18), Phoenix Art Museum ($10) and Phoenix Zoo ($18). The pass is good on the highest ticket price, so if you bring two parents and two kids, the adult rate is the free rate, and you pay only the cheaper kids’ admission.
Getting a pass is free. Library cardholders in Chandler, Mesa and Tempe can check one out at their library. So can cardholders at Arizona State University’s Hayden or Polytechnic libraries.
The passes are good for seven days, and they don’t need to be returned. You may check out one at a time and up to two per month. Libraries have a limited number of passes, and they’re available first-come, first-served.
They can’t be reserved, but I have had luck in the past calling my library branch and asking when they restock Culture Passes, so I can make sure I’m there at an opportune time.
