Gilbert has its first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-certified "green" house.
Built by Caymus Luxury Homes, the house built in the Acacia Estates development recently received certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Some of the elements that Caymus employed were:
Solar panels were put on the flat roof sections of the garage and patio.
The power that the house does not use will go back to the Salt River Project power grid and the homeowner will receive credit for it.
The air conditioning and heat were zoned with thermostats configured by living area so that the residents aren't heating or cooling parts of the house that aren't used much.
Thermal foam insulation was sprayed into the house to fill the area between the ceilings and the roof, as well as all the side walls.
The house is located at 3149 E. Bellflower Court in Gilbert and is open for public viewing from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week.
It is priced at $1.32 million.
