A two-day conference at Arizona State University this week focuses on the role of American Indian tribes in energy development.
The conference sponsored by the Indian Legal Program at the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law is scheduled this Thursday and Friday.
Program director Rebecca Tsosie (SO-see) says many tribal communities have long practiced sustainability as part of their culture, and that can help inform energy policies.
The conference is designed for tribal leaders, financiers and others working on energy issues in Indian Country.
The university says the conference is the first in a series that will focus on economic development on tribal lands.
