Some places have such an impact on your senses, you can’t help but be drawn back time and time again.
That’s the way it is with Tempe Center for the Arts, which turns 5 years old this month. To celebrate, the lakeside venue is throwing open its doors for an anniversary party, and everyone is invited.
If you’ve never checked out the architectural stunner, it’s a good time to do so. Local companies Childsplay, Desert Dance Theatre and CONDER/dance will supply entertainment, and a new show of wood artwork, the traditional material for fifth anniversary gifts, will debut in The Gallery. You can also sign a giant birthday card, enter ticket giveaways, and nibble birthday cake as you take in the million-dollar view of an infinity pool that appears to merge with Tempe Town Lake. Folk and soul singer-songwriter Teneia Sanders will supply a live soundtrack.
You just might find yourself stopping by TCA more often, not only for performances on stage but for everyday pleasures, like touring changing exhibits in the free art gallery, letting the kids splash along the water wall outside, catching free Wednesday open mic nights in the lobby and taking in the glowing lights of the lake’s pedestrian bridge from the picturesque patio.
