As busy as life is these days, quality time with our girlfriends gets scarce. That’s why we favor meet-ups that are more effortless than mega-planned.
Like, say, a wine tasting with the women behind Happy Bitch Wines.
Keryl Pesce and Debbie Gioquindo, founders of the cheekily-named Hudson Valley rosé, will hang out Oct. 12 at Queen Creek Olive Mill, chatting with people who pop in to sample their wine.
The blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir came about thanks to Twitter, says Gioquindo, a wine blogger and educator in New York.
Pesce, who had written a book called “Happy Bitch,” asked followers what they thought of a companion wine to the book.
“I tweeted back, ‘Why don’t you make it locally and source grapes from New York?’” says Gioquindo.
They met over coffee to share ideas and ended up taking their wine to store shelves in three states in less than one year.
Described as strong, sassy and well-balanced, the rosé is not unlike the kind of woman it’s made to celebrate.
“It’s a girlfriend wine. It just pairs well with girlfriends and good memories,” says Gioquindo. “We’re all dealt, sometimes, a bad deck, and it’s about what you do with it. You know, get rid of baggage, don’t hold grudges. They make you old. They give you wrinkles. Move forward in a positive way.”
Aside from sipping vino and getting your Happy Bitch bottle or book signed, you can browse the mill’s boutique food, kitchen and bath goods or grab a salad, panini or scoop of gelato from on-site restaurant del Piero.
And just like that, “catch up with girlfriends” is checked off the list.
