Every summer, Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art — a hip retreat from the summer heat — hosts an event just for families, and it makes things even cooler by encouraging kids to take a dip in an adjacent outdoor fountain at Scottsdale Civic Center Park.

This year’s event takes its inspiration from the summer exhibition “Stocked: Contemporary Art from the Grocery Aisles.” Families can explore the exhibit on child-friendly tours, create food-themed art and crafts, and “Draw That Shopper” in an activity that gives visitors a sample grocery list and asks them to dream up the person who may have lost it. There will be healthy snacks, too.

Outside activities include blowing giant bubbles, grooving to fun food songs performed live by local children’s music group Jeff Jones and the Earthtones, and splashing in the fountain. Swimsuits and towels are encouraged.

The event is best for children 10 and younger. Pre-registration is required; call (480) 874-4642. Check-in begins at 5:15 p.m.

DETAILS >> 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 27. SMoCA, 7380 E. Second St., Scottsdale. $20 per family of four; $4 for each additional person. Pre-registration is required at (480) 874-4642.
