The olives from the 2012 harvest have been pressed, and the slick, aromatic liquid they yielded is something to celebrate. At least, it is around these parts.

Queen Creek Olive Mill’s Festival of the Olio Nuovo, or new oil, kicks off this weekend at the bustling rural outpost.

A Grill at the Mill goes 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 20, where you can purchase a sweet or spicy grilled Italian sausage from the mill’s artisanal sausage-making neighbor, The Pork Shop. Topped with your choice of caramelized red onion and fig, sweet red pepper and olive, or peach caponatina tapenade and served with Sicilian slaw and potato chips, it’s good company for the beverages available at the mill, from a flight of local craft beers to a glass of house-made sangria.

You’ll also find a complimentary wine tasting and live music in the olive tree grove by Mark Dolin and Kaufee. The duo play a range of songs, from soulful jazz to lively covers.

The month-long festival features wine tastings and live music weekends through Feb. 17. During that time, the mill will also host specially scheduled events, like an Olive Pit Spittin’ Contest, Winter Wine Show and Sonoran Desert Art Fair.

Limited-edition Arcangelo, Franciscan and Bianca extra virgin olive oils will also be released; once gone, they won’t be available again until 2014.
