Friends, family and fans honor the life of beloved Valley icon and longtime KPHO-TV children’s television host, creator, writer and producer Bill “Wallace” Thompson with a special tribute on Monday, Aug. 11 at 7:30 p.m. at Harkins Tempe Marketplace Cine Capri.

Thompson, who passed away on July 23 at age 82, created, produced and co-hosted “The Wallace and Ladmo Show.” The popular children’s television show aired on KPHO-TV for 36 years making it one of the longest-running, daily, locally produced children’s television shows in American broadcasting.

Hosted by Dan Harkins, owner and CEO of Harkins Theatres and lifetime friend of Thompson’s, the tribute will be a celebration of Thompson’s life and will feature special appearances, performances, Wallace and Ladmo memorabilia and show clips of Thompson’s greatest work.

“Wallace holds a special place in the hearts of Arizonans and it is a great honor to celebrate the life of my dear friend Wallboy,” said Harkins. “He was like a second father to me and his support was vital in Harkins Theatres’ early years.”

The special tribute is open to the public with access beginning at 6 p.m. There is no charge for the event; however, seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Thompson’s honor to Banner Health Foundation for Cardon Children’s Medical Center (2025 N. Third St., Suite 250, Phoenix; (602) 747-4483) or the Arizona Humane Society (1521 W. Dobbins Road, Phoenix; (602) 997-7585).
